Is your ad hook any good?

Paste your opening line, answer eight quick questions and I'll score your video ad out of 100. Then I'll tell you, kindly but honestly, the three things to fix first. Free. No sign up. Takes about 30 seconds.

The first words people read or hear. Paste the whole script if you like. I mostly judge the first sentence.

1. Is your product or a face on screen in the very first second?

Not a logo, not a slow fade. The thing you are selling, or a person, from frame one.

2. Are captions or text burned into the video?

So it still makes sense with the sound off.

3. Is it shot or made in 9:16 vertical?

Full screen on a phone, not a landscape video with bars.

4. Is it 15 seconds or shorter?

Count the whole ad, end card included.

5. Does it give a reason to act now?

An offer, a price, a launch, free shipping, a problem it fixes today.

6. Does it end with one clear call to action?

Shop now, book today, grab yours. One ask, said or shown.

7. Is every review or testimonial in it real and used with permission? (Say yes if there are none.)

No AI people pretending to be customers, no made up quotes.

8. If any of it is AI generated, is it labelled where Meta or TikTok ask? (Say yes if there is no AI.)

Realistic AI people or scenes usually need a label.

How the grader works

I built this from the same checklist I use on every ad I make. The checks follow what Meta and TikTok tell advertisers in their own creative guides, like getting the key message into the first three seconds, going vertical and adding captions, plus Australian rules on honest reviews. The fixes link to posts with the sources, so you can check my homework.

Questions about the grader

Is the Ad Hook Grader really free?

Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, there is no sign up and nothing you type is sent to us. The only time anything reaches me is if you choose to email me for the free hook rewrite.

How is the score worked out?

Eight yes or no checks are worth 80 points, weighted by how much each one tends to matter, and your opening line is worth up to 20 points based on simple signals such as length, whether it talks to the viewer and whether it wastes the first words on a brand intro. It is a quick checklist, not a prediction of results.

Where do the checks come from?

They follow the creative guidance Meta and TikTok publish for advertisers, such as getting your key message into the first three seconds, using 9:16 video and captions, plus Australian rules on honest reviews and platform rules on labelling AI content. Each fix links to a post with the sources.

Does a high score guarantee my ad will work?

No. Your offer, audience, budget and timing all matter, and only a real test tells you what wins. A high score just means you have not tripped over the common basics.
